Nancy’s Hustle

I’m sitting here at the court house for jury duty, fervently hoping that I don’t get picked. I am thinking of a million things I’d rather be doing, so I try to get my mind into a nice place to calm my anxiety. Naturally, I gravitate towards food…. Nancy’s Hustle is a newish restaurant that we tried last week that I forgot to write about.

Sherry Cobbler Cocktail

Menu is divided into Small and Large  Plates. Small plates were appetizers and they had a very good selection, so we had two.

Parmesan and Pancetta Croquettes—served piping hot!!! Burnt tongue alert
Assorted Cheese, Charcuterie, Breads, Jams.Yum!

Large plates are entrees.

Rabbit Leg Confit and Bacon-Wrapped Rabbit Loin, Braised Beans and Sage

This is a rabbit dish made well. The leg was tender and game-y in a good way. The loin was deceptive, taste is still rabbit-y but texture was so smooth.

Hangar Steak, Herb Crusted Potato Pave with Black Truffle

This was D’s entree. Steak was cooked perfect medium. I don’t think you could ever go wrong with a truffle and steak combo. Potato Pave is made of super thin layers of potatoes. There is some sort of flavor to it. I’m on a mission to find a good recipe for this because it’s a nice variation from the usual mashed potatoes.

I’m embarrassed to say that I forgot the name of this drink. It was a special for that day, hence not on the menu. Given the level of amnesia, this is one amazing drink!

Mai Tai of some sort
Parmesan Cheesecake with Black Pepper Honey

I love this dessert. The cheesecake had a very home-made feel and the drizzle of black pepper honey had this spicy-sweet flavor that is always a winner to me.

I know that I vowed not to to take restaurant reviews too seriously, as most professional reviews are muddled with personal interests. This restaurant had a stamp of approval from most food writers and I’m glad I jumped on the bandwagon.  Food was executed perfectly and the service  was good.

La Griglia

Our anniversary was last week, but because we had family visiting (and I had a slew of foods for New Year’s day), we decided to postpone our celebratory dinner. We picked La Griglia because our love for Italian food has been revived since we ate at North Italia.

This is from their outdoor seating area. I’m seeing more and more of this water and fire feature and I’m loving it!
This is the interior. Walls are swathed with murals. I’m glad I was able to take this pic early because the restaurant got packed fast.
We started with Barolo and Italian Margarita
Pepper crusted AHI TUNA with caramelized fennel for appetizers
Lavander-crusted Maple Farm Farm Duck with wild rice
Medallions of beef with gorgonzola, wild mushroom, shallot-pepper sauce and nonna potatoes
Chocolate Dome cake for dessert!

This was a quiet celebration, compared to what we had last year at Toulouse (they served our dessert with fireworks!). We initially booked there but it was close for a private function. La Griglia is wonderful restaurant, they just don’t do celebrations well (at all). On any old dinner night, this is still an  awesome choice.
